Success Stories: From Trainees to Leaders

Success Stories: From Trainees to Leaders – Croydon Health Services NHS Trust

Claudia Taragan, Senior Finance Manager:“Four years ago, I began my finance career at Croydon University Hospital, not knowing it would be a journey of remarkable growth and transformation. The challenges were many but each one was an opportunity to be seized.

Navigating these challenges, I found unwavering support from my finance colleagues. Together, we tackled the obstacles and emerged stronger. Mentors and managers played pivotal roles in my journey, offering guidance, encouragement, and believing in my potential. Their support was instrumental in my progress.

During my tenure at CUH, I sat all my ACCA exams and am now a fully qualified ACCA member. This milestone is a testament to perseverance and dedication. Every day brings new lessons, whether in complex financial models or subtle interpersonal skills. I remain open to learning, adapting, and evolving.

To those starting their careers, I offer this advice: discover your passion, align with an organization whose values resonate with yours, and embrace challenges. These experiences build not only professional expertise but also confidence. Seize every opportunity, as each obstacle is a stepping stone toward growth, and resilience builds character.”

Francesca Iorio, Management Accountant:

“Completing my placement at Croydon NHS Trust in September 2023 was transformative. Starting as a Band 2 and advancing to Band 5, I tackled increasingly complex tasks, boosting my financial knowledge and confidence. This experience allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the NHS, aligning my work with values of inclusion and equality.

As a Financial Management Trainee, I supported various departments, ensuring budgets were wisely spent for patients’ benefit. Key responsibilities included budget analysis for recruitment, managing contract changes, and month-end financial activities. My proficiency with Excel enhanced my efficiency and analytical skills.

This placement not only improved my technical abilities but also honed my decision-making, communication, and relationship-building skills. It provided a solid foundation for my future career while reinforcing my commitment to the NHS’s mission of compassionate, patient-focused service.”
