Zoe Melsome-Smith, Apprentice Management Accountant Assistant, Airedale NHS Foundations Trust – Career Story

After completing a degree Leeds Beckett University, which had little relation to finance, I was unsure about where my career path would take me. After University I spent a lot of time travelling and working within a variety of different job roles.

After working within the Procurement department at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, specifically focusing on invoicing and accounts payable, I knew I wanted to focus my career goals towards finance.

When an apprenticeship arose within the management accounts team at Airedale, I didn’t hesitate to apply! I knew how many opportunities an apprenticeship can create, and this would be the start of my journey!

Since starting the apprenticeship I have felt like an extremely valued member of the team, I am constantly working towards developing my skills and knowledge and ultimately progressing through the department. Gaining this valuable experience within the NHS will provide many opportunities for progression and development, as well as being extremely rewarding, knowing the work you are doing every day could have an extremely positive impact on a patient’s life.
